Medications at School

By Wockenfuss, Gary

October 05, 2018

Weeping Water Parents and Students,

This letter is to let you know as a reminder that WWPS has been notified by the school’s attorneys that WWPS does not allow students to carry prescription and non-prescription medicine; (exception of diabetes and asthmas self-management meds) on them during school hours. They should have the office hold it and administer it by our school nurse or Mrs. Hanes.

School Attorney Note:

Under the Nebraska Medication Aide Act, students can only carry diabetes and asthma self-management meds.  Everything else has to be administered by a qualified aide such as but not limited to: Ibuprofen, Aspirin, Tylenol, Caladryl anti itch (bug bites), TUMS, and cough drops.

If your child has emergency medications and carries them, such as an inhaler, please provide the school with a back-up in the event your child cannot locate their emergency medication, the school will have it to give.

Thank you for your assistance in this matter.

If you have questions, please notify the front office.
