Quiz Bowl Information
Quiz Bowl is an academic game in which two teams (of four or five members each) compete head-to-head to answer questions from all areas of knowledge including history, literature, science, math, fine arts, current events, sports, and popular culture. The defining feature of quiz bowl is the use of a “buzzer system” that lets players interrupt the reading of a question when they know the answer. This element adds a dimension of confidence, anticipation, and rapid recall to what is primarily a game about knowing facts. Toss-up questions are answered individually, but doing so earns one’s team a chance at a bonus question. Bonus questions allow collaboration within a team.
Weeping Water offers quiz bowl participation at the middle and high school levels. The middle school teams (6th, 7th & 8th) compete in the Cass County Quad Quiz Bowl over four separate events. Both junior high (7th & 8th) and high school (junior varsity & varsity) compete at ECNC Quiz Bowl. Other events include the Mad Hatter Quiz Bowl and High School Academic Quiz Bowl at ESU 3.
